Metro

Metro – Venezuela’s oil boom has afforded its government the opportunity to build a Metro subway system that runs through much of Caracas (inaugurated in 1983). There are four Metro lines, totaling 48 stations. The longest line, Line 1, goes east–west along the city axis. Line 2 goes from the center southwest to the distant suburb of Caricuao and the zoo. Line 3 goes from Plaza Venezuela, past the university and southwest to the La Rinconada horserace track. Line 4 parallels line 1 to the south and links lines 2 and 3. Two other lines (Line 5 and Line 6) are under construction. A one-way Metro ride costs Bs. 1.50 (US$.23 cents). Passengers can also buy a “multi-abono” ticket, which covers 10 rides, for Bs. 13.50 (US$2.14). The following is the map of Caracas’ Metro system:
